McCain Gets Confused Yet Again

Throughout the campaign John McCain has made quite a few blunders when it comes to speaking about foreign policy; suggesting Iran is helping Sunni extremists such as al-Qaeda, when in fact Iran is a Shiite-based nation and is accused of supporting groups that are enemies of al-Qaeda, repeadedly speaking about Czechoslovakia, a nation that hasn’t existed since 1993 and now he has yet another “oops” to add to his impressive foreign policy resume. This morning on Good Morning America, McCain apparently confused Afghanistan with Iraq:
Asked by ABC’s Diane Sawyer Monday morning whether the “the situation in Afghanistan in precarious and urgent,” McCain responded:
“I think it’s serious… . It’s a serious situation, but there’s a lot of things we need to do. We have a lot of work to do and I’m afraid it’s a very hard struggle, particularly given the situation on the Iraq/Pakistan border,” said McCain, R-Ariz., said on “Good Morning America
While some people may write this off as cutesy and “no big deal, people forget things and misspeak”. There are two things concerning about all of this. First, McCain’s mental health; yes, I said it, but I am genuinely concerned about his age. Reagan was 69 when he became the oldest person to become president, McCain would be 72. Furthermore, regardless of what these gaffes may mean about his health, it would be slightly embarrassing if your president is getting facts completely wrong and discussing countries that don’t exist.
